Mechanic / Equipment Operator
Pine Landscape Center is a locally owned landscape supply company providing quality materials and dependable delivery service to our customers. We are seeking a reliable Mechanic / Equipment Operator to maintain and repair our fleet, operate delivery trucks and loaders, and support day-to-day yard operations.
This is a hands-on role that requires versatility, strong mechanical skills, and a commitment to keeping our equipment and deliveries running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Equipment Maintenance
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair trucks, trailers, loaders, forklifts, and small engines.
- Perform scheduled maintenance: oil changes, brake service, tire replacement, lubrication, and hydraulic system repairs.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and complete timely repairs.
- Maintain service records and inspection logs for all equipment and vehicles.
- Coordinate outsourced repairs when needed and ensure quick turnaround.
Equipment Operation & Deliveries
- Operate loaders, forklifts, and other yard equipment safely and efficiently.
- Drive delivery trucks to transport landscape materials to customer sites, following all DOT and company safety regulations.
- Assist with loading/unloading materials for deliveries or yard stock.
- Support field staff with on-site equipment issues as needed.
- Assist customers on-site or in yard while loading or delivering product.
Shop & Yard Support
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop and yard area.
- Monitor and order parts, tools, and supplies to keep operations running smoothly.
- Prepare equipment for seasonal tasks such as snow removal or peak delivery periods.
- Communicate repair needs, timelines, and costs to management promptly.
- Deliver personalized service to customers while helping them select products.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of mechanical experience (automotive, diesel, or small engine repair).
- Ability to operate loaders, forklifts, or similar equipment safely.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL Class A & current medical card.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical work safely.
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
Preferred
- Experience in landscape supply, construction, or delivery operations.
- Welding or fabrication skills.
- Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements and recordkeeping.
- Own basic hand tools; company will provide specialty tools.
Work Environment
- Average of 55 hours/week during peak season and 40 hours/week off-season.
- Peak Season: March – October | 7:15 – 5:00 M-F & 7:15 – 5:00 every other Saturday.
- Off Season: November – February | 7:45 – 4:30 M-F
- Closed the week between Christmas & New Year’s with paid work week.
